LOCATION:                          This position will travel Davis, Woodland and W. Sacramento

SCHEDULE:                         This position is per diem. There is no set schedule or set hours each week

Salary Range: $23.72 to $28.99 hourly

JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant is part of the Perinatal department and works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income, non‑English speaking population.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. Completion of M.A training program required
  2. Phlebotomy certification preferred
  3. Current CPR certification required
  4. One year of MA experience in an outpatient setting
  5. Experience working in a health clinic or demonstrated commitment to low-income populations
  6. Bi-lingual English/Spanish required

 

KNOWLEDGE OF WORK

1. Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory duties
2. Demonstrate the skills to provide age-appropriate care to the clients of the clinic.
3 Demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to interpret information relative to the patients age related needs.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for the coordination of care for perinatal patients including but not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments, referrals to specialists and labs and tracking of patient attendance to referrals and appointments; coordination of outpatient/inpatient continuity of care; assist clinicians with tracking of high risk patients and tracking of abnormal test results; schedule care transfers, hospital admissions, and referrals as directed by the midwife; monitor referrals to available resources including childbirth classes, WIC, Substance Abuse treatment, Social Services, Dental services, nutritionist, etc.
2. Communicate effectively with Medi-Cal, Partnership and other insurers to assist clients with obtaining health care coverage and problem solving insurance issues as needed.
3. Adherence to CPSP guidelines to ensure appropriate health education, nutrition and psycho-social care services are offered and a plan of care has been developed and followed up for each client.
4. Assures the consistent delivery of high quality services through thorough patient chart preparation including; all lab, ultrasound and medical reports are in place; consistent chart order; accurate completion of routing slip; preparation of lab referrals and scheduling for health education, nutrition and social worker as needed.
5. Responsible for the accurate completion and timely submission of billing records.
6. Ensure compliance to quality assurance in accordance with written policy and procedures.  Including abnormal lab tracking, DNKA tracking, high risk patients, and post partum patients.
7. Enter and Monitor clinic midwife schedules in ECW.  Assist PN Administrator and Clinic Coordinator in monitoring clinic patient schedules to maintain appropriate provider/patient ratios.
8. Close Perinatal Patient charts per established guidelines.
9. Provide administrative and clinical support to PN Coordinators to ensure quality of patient care and timely follow up of referrals, medical records and lab results.
10. Coordinate ultrasound and GYN clinics including, referral management, record review, chart set-up, rooming of patients, Spanish translation, transcribing and clinic follow up.
11. Attend Perinatal staff meetings, site meetings and other operations meetings as needed.
12. Perform other program duties as required to offer high quality, accessible Perinatal services as assigned by the Perinatal Administrator and Perinatal Services Director.
