Salary Range: $23.72 to $28.99 hourly

Established in 2023, CommuniCare+OLE is the result of a union of two health centers with  deep roots in their respective communities and reputations for providing high-quality primary care to all, regardless of insurance or ability to pay: OLE Health of Napa and Solano Counties and CommuniCare Health Centers of Yolo County. JOB SUMMARY The Medical Assistant works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income, non-English speaking population

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. College degree or high school diploma required.
  2. Two years related work experience
  3. Experience in a social service agency, health care organization, or medical office.
  4. Bilingual English/Spanish required

 

KNOWLEDGE OF WORK

1. Knowledge of medical terminology
2. Knowledge of community resources
3. Knowledge of California health care programs.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and family members.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Interviews clients for program eligibility for a variety of health care coverage programs including, but not limited to, Covered California, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Patient Assistance Program (PAP), Kaiser Permanente Child Health Program (KPCHP), and County Medical Services Program (CMSP).
2. Assists patients with applications to the various programs and in collection of necessary documentation.
3. Assists clients in the application process for Covered California, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Patient Assistance Program (PAP), Kaiser Permanente Child Health Program (KPCHP), and County Medical Services Program (CMSP).
4. Refers clients to out-stationed county Eligibility Workers for completion of application process when appropriate.
5. Educates patients, family members and community about various health coverage programs.
6. Develops flyers, hand-outs, and other informational materials to facilitate the application process.
7. Case manages patient accounts by tracking eligibility, status in application process, and monitoring patients’ enrollment in programs.
8. Provide data entry of patient information into tracking systems.
9. Initiate or maintain Covered California Certified Enrollment Counselor status.
10. Act as a resource to all clinic staff regarding third party payor programs and public charge and immigration issues relating to health care benefits.
11. Assist in training staff on eligibility requirements, application process, and benefits of enrollment in third party programs and health care coverage.
12. Attends health fairs, meetings, and other community events to inform the community about the various health care coverage options.
