Location: Napa, CA. This position requires the flexibility to travel from site to site if needed.
Pay Range: $45.86 to $56.05/hr

POSITION TITLE: Registered Dental Hygienist

JOB SUMMARY: The Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) will perform a wide range of duties in the dental clinic under direct supervision of a dentist, primarily including chair side assisting duties, infection control, x-rays and dental treatment education to patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health condition, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse |
Assess patients’ teeth, bone, and periodontal tissues indicating the presence of any abnormalities or suspected diseases or conditions |
Co-diagnoses with the dentist to develop appropriate periodontal treatment plans |
Brings to the immediate attention of the dentist any suspected lesion in the mouth or on the teeth |
Thoroughly removes soft and hard deposits and extrinsic stain from teeth, using hand instruments, ultrasonic inserts and hand pieces |
Instructs patients how to practice good oral hygiene; makes recommendations as to appropriate products or devices for patients’ home care; and provides other health care education, as necessary |
Performs full mouth debridement, either as a first stage gingivitis therapy or to remove interfering calculus to further enable a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan |
Performs root planning as a periodontal therapy |
Placements and removals of periodontal packs |
Places locally-administered antibiotics as supportive periodontal therapy |
Implements irrigation and desensitizing procedures or products as adjunctive to periodontal therapy |
Exposes, develops and mounts dental x-rays (intraoral and extraoral) |
Bonding for pit and fissure sealants |
Removals of temporary and permanent cement |
Makes and cements temporary crowns |
Places and removes temporary sedative fillings |
Removes sutures |
Makes impressions of patient’s teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs) |
Provides local anesthesia as needed for treatment procedures (certificate needed) |
Performs treatment as deemed necessary by the staff dentist |
Provides dental hygiene treatment to children and adults in a primary care setting. |
Performs dental prophylaxis, removes deposits (plaque, tartar, stain) from the teeth, and takes and develops necessary radiographs |
Serves as a member of the cross-functional team of providers, engages in routine and preventive dental care |
Applies preventive agents such as fluoride and sealants to the tooth surfaces and assist dentist, as required, in further treatment of teeth and gums |
Examines teeth and gums for signs of disease or decay |
Charts such conditions for further diagnosis and treatment by dentist and for proper patient record maintenance |
Maintains a high standard of care and abide to professional ethics |
Performs other duties as assigned |
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Graduated from a school of dental hygiene recognized by the California State Board of Dental Examiners
- License to practice dental hygiene in the State of California
- Current CPR certification required
- Radiation Safety Certificate required
- Previous Dental Hygienist experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills required; must have ability to handle difficult patients
- Computer and data entry skills required; electronic health record system preferred
- Must possess a current California Driver’s License
